“Test pitting” will commence on or about Sunday night, January 8th near the existing Metro elevator on the west side of Rockville Pike.  This is a precursor to utilities relocation to accommodate the Crossing Project.  Pedestrian access through the area should not be affected during these tests.

MCDOT Awards Contract for Pedestrian Crossing and High Speed Elevators at Medical Center Metro Station in Bethesda

Clark Construction Group will be the prime contractor for a BRAC-related design/build project to construct a pedestrian access route under Maryland Route 355 and high-speed elevators that link the Metrorail mezzanine at the Medical Center Station in Bethesda with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The project also includes improvements to the intersection of Rockville Pike at Jones Bridge Road.

  • Technical proposals from the Reduced Candidate List are due on July 17, 2015. After a period of review, MCDOT expects to award the contract late this calendar year.
  • The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is tentatively scheduled to meet on Thursday, January 9, 2014, for a Mandatory Referral of the proposed MD 355 Crossing (BRAC) Project. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission headquarters, 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20910. The confirmed date and session when the item will be reviewed by the Planning Board will be posted on the board’s website on the Monday prior to the meeting date.   • On July 10, 2013, MCDOT received Expressions of Interest from nine Design-Build teams in response to the Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI) issued on May 30, 2013. Clark Construction Group LLC and Corman-Bradshaw JV have been selected for the Reduced Candidate List (RCL) out of a field of nine teams. The County is currently preparing a Request for Proposal (RFP) that will be shared with the RCL as part of the Design-Build team selection process, which will take place over the next year.

MD 355 Bus Rapid Transit Corridor Planning Study Open House

The Maryland Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, is conducting a study for developing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) along a portion of the MD 355 corridor. Two public Open Houses will be held to provide information on the BRT conceptual alternatives under study and gather community input about potential BRT service from Bethesda to Clarksburg (including along Observation Drive).

At the Open Houses, you will meet the project team and be able to review:

  • Results of Preliminary Analysis
  • Station Design Concepts
  • Next Steps
